In the small village of Saint-Joseph-de-la-Rive, you will find a general store and a home-made bakery, which kept its yesteryear charm. The Boulangerie Laurentide is surely worth a stop for its pastries inspired from Charlevoix heritage. On the Rue de l’Église, Les Santons de Charlevoix presents a collection of small hand-painted terracotta figurines. The miniature houses are all inspired from actual Charlevoix houses. Right next door, the Musée maritime de Charlevoix, located on the old naval shipyard of the municipality, will make you discover the history of the schooners that navigated on the St. Lawrence River. For a better understanding of the navigation history and the importance of these ships for the economical development of the region, visit the permanent and temporary exhibitions that are presented here.

A little farther, at the Papeterie Saint-Gilles, paper economuseum, you will have the chance to observe craftsmen and craftswomen manufacture a fine cotton paper, inlaid with leaves or flowers of the region. A winner of several regional and national prizes, the paper mill was the first economuseum in the country thanks to its workshop, its paper work museum and its gift shop. Finally, next to the quay, you will find a beautiful beach that gives access to the river and where you can board the ferry to Isle-aux-Coudres.
