Though still associated with the huge landslide that followed the violent 1663 earthquake, the municipality of Les Éboulements is yet part of the Most Beautiful Villages of Quebec Association. With an exceptional view on the St. Lawrence River and Isle-aux-Coudres, this village is an inspiration source for many artists. The hiking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing enthusiasts will be enchanted by the Le Paysan and Louis-Charles Audet trails. On Rue Principale, the Manoir Sales-Laterrière, acquired by the Frères du Sacré-Coeur in 1947, is now a summer camp for young boys, and it won the prize “La Guimauve d’or” in 1997-1998 and in 2000-2001. The site can be visited at any time and you can find here nature trails, picnic areas and interpretation panels.
On the same street, the Gallerie d’art Le Patrimoine, chez Jacques Labrecque shows the work of the artist painter Michelle Duquette. Come admire her Northern lights, her oil paintings and her pastels. The work of Jacques Labrecque, a renowned folk musician and the author of “audio geography of Québec and Canada’s French speaking communities”, is also presented. Not very far from there, the Moulin banal sits above a 30-meter-high fall and still possesses its original aspect and mechanisms. With the seigniorial manor located right next to it, it represents one of the last seigniorial ensembles of Quebec. You can visit the interior of the mill where you will find old furniture and the different gears, as well as the miller who still grinds grain. On the site, you will even be able to buy wheat and buckwheat flour. End your tour of the municipality at the Forge du Village. Inside this old 1891 building, you will find home-made tools and a gift shop, art metal work, pottery, handicraft and jewels.
