The first inhabitant who settled in this charming little village of Charlevoix established his seigniory in 1720. More than 100 years passed before the village received an official name: l'Assomption-de-la-Sainte-Vierge, in 1855. Only four years later, the name of the village changed to become les Éboulements. This name comes from an important earthquake that shook the area in 1663 and caused a serious landslide.
If many people in Quebec know about les Éboulements, it is unfortunately because of a fatal bus accident that happened in 1997. Forty-four people, all coming from the same village, lost their lives in that accident. Yet, this village, which is part of the Most Beautiful Villages of Québec Association, owes its fame to its country heritage and to the beautiful architecture and character of its houses. This is such a beautiful village that a large number of artists come to settle in the area. Many of them have opened their workshops and boutiques, for the joy of art lovers. To visit them, you only have to follow Route 362. Its landscape will undoubtedly charm you, just like the art boutiques, in which you can buy some artwork.
