The Isle-aux-Coudres was discovered by Jacques Cartier during his second voyage in 1535. For centuries, the island was used as a halt for ships coming from Europe. Nowadays, the island is accessible by ferry from Saint-Joseph-de-la-Rive. It quickly became an important maritime centre, and visitors can still learn about this maritime history.
The inhabitants of the island are very friendly and will surely be happy to tell you about their beautiful island. The road that goes around the island can be taken by car, by bike or by foot. Along this road, interpretation panels tell you about the history of the island.
